In the Beginning
Meet the God who speaks and creates, understand human sin, and follow His first promise of rescue.
Children need to know the Bible itself: one connected account of God’s saving work in Christ, told through different kinds of writing. Genesis to Revelation follows that unfolding purpose, placing selected psalms, wisdom and letters alongside the story. Representative readings from every biblical book help families understand how the parts belong together.
Families with children roughly five to fifteen learn together from one main Bible reading and one clear biblical truth. Younger children can participate through listening, retelling, pointing and simple choices. Older children have room to explain reasons and make connections, with further depth available separately when they are ready.
Begin by learning yourself. Allow about 15–20 minutes to read the passage, work through Foundation and review the family conversation. Foundation explains the passage in its setting, its relationship to Christ and its implications for your own life before offering concise help to lead. Necessary context and suggested responses are supplied.
Open the Bible together. Allow about 10–15 minutes for the whole shared meeting, including a brief return to earlier understanding, Bible reading, a few connected questions, choosing one Practice and prayer. Take time to listen and help each child explain the meaning in their own words.
Go deeper when it helps. A separate optional 5–10 minutes gives learners who are ready an opportunity for richer explanation and reasoning about the same truth. Allow up to five additional minutes of adult preparation where needed for this extension. Essential teaching remains in the shared conversation.
Take one thing into ordinary life. Choose one manageable action, agreement or memory focus, understand how it follows from the passage, and return briefly to its meaning. Use the lessons at your family’s pace; the time allowances are guides, and there is no required daily or weekly schedule. Each plan provides an introduction for families beginning there and recaps to help you return after a pause.
Together, the lesson plans serve a simple aim: to help families know God, understand His saving purpose in Christ and respond in trust, worship and obedience, receiving “the whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:27).
