Read Foundation before leading. Keep the Bible open, listen patiently and use the younger help where useful. The older reasoning prompt belongs within the shared conversation; Going deeper is separate.
Family conversation
Roughly five to fifteen together · Allow 10–15 minutes for the whole meeting · Luke 24:44–49
Reconnect
Recall: What does Scripture make us wise for? Salvation through faith in Christ. If you are beginning here, introduce that saving purpose now. If this is your first conversation, supply the answer as a recap.
Locate and read
Ask: What helps us understand how the parts of a story belong together? Knowing where the story is going helps us understand earlier events. Jesus explains the centre of Scripture’s saving story.
Introduce and read Luke 24:44–49: Jesus has died and risen bodily. He is with His followers, helping them understand the Scriptures and the message they will take to others.
Understand together
Ask: What does Jesus say the Scriptures prepared His followers to understand?
The Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead, and repentance for forgiveness would be proclaimed in His name. The different writings serve this connected saving purpose.
Jesus does not say that every verse is a direct prediction. He shows that God’s purposes lead to Him. We will learn each passage in its own setting and discover how it prepares for, reveals or follows His saving work.
Younger help: Use three spoken prompts: Jesus died; Jesus rose; Jesus offers forgiveness. Let a child retell one part and help connect the rest.
For older reasoning, if useful: Why would a Bible lesson be incomplete if it only told us to copy a brave person? It could miss what the passage reveals about God and His saving purpose. We need Christ’s rescue, not only examples.
Invite an explanation: How would you explain what we have learnt about God from this passage? Help the family connect its answer with the central truth, using its own words or pointing to the passage.
Connect with Christ: The risen speaker is Himself the Saviour. He calls sinners to turn to God and receive forgiveness through Him. Neither finishing this series nor telling the story well earns that forgiveness.
Respond and pray
Imagine: Someone says the Bible is just a collection of unrelated rules and adventures.
Ask: How could you explain its connected purpose? It contains different kinds of writing, but God’s saving purpose leads to Jesus’ death, resurrection and forgiveness. We can begin with that message and keep learning the connections.
Choose the one Practice below. Pray, or invite the family to listen: Lord Jesus, thank you for dying and rising to save sinners. Help us understand the Scriptures, trust you and speak of your mercy truthfully. Amen.
Practice: retell the good news
At one ordinary moment, retell the three connected parts: Jesus suffered for sinners, rose again and offers forgiveness as we turn to Him. Use your own words together.
Younger children may join one phrase. Older learners can explain why forgiveness depends on Jesus rather than our performance.
Return briefly: What holds the saving story together? God’s purpose fulfilled through Jesus’ death and resurrection, with forgiveness proclaimed in His name. Revisit this naturally or within the next conversation; no extra meeting or private report is required.
Going deeper: The promise becomes understandable
Optional · Allow a separate 5–10 minutes · Luke 24:25–27
Earlier on the same day, Jesus spoke with two followers who had not understood why the Messiah suffered.
Ask: Why did His suffering seem like a defeat to them? They had not understood the Scriptures’ account of the Messiah’s suffering and glory. Their expectations needed correction.
Ask: How does Jesus’ explanation guide our reading? We listen to Scripture’s own witness and connections. We do not turn every object or person into an invented symbol of Jesus.
Keep the same central truth and Practice. This extension deepens understanding; it does not add another required assignment.
